Putting People First
Putting people first means that your healthcare wishes and desires direct the path of your care and that’s exactly what Four Seasons does. Our Four Seasons Hospice Team works with you and your existing providers to ensure that what matters most to you is prioritized throughout your care journey. As a non-profit hospice provider, Four Seasons is uniquely positioned to provide person-centered care to you and your loved ones. What matters most to you, matters most to us.
What’s Happening to Non-Profit Hospices
The earliest hospice organizations in the U.S. were community-based non-profits like Four Seasons. Non-profit hospice providers like Four Seasons are becoming fewer and farther between as big business has taken an interest in hospice care as a for-profit venture. Today studies show that 73% of hospice providers are operating as for-profits and there are important differences in non-profit and for-profit hospice organizations.
Why Choose a Non-Profit Hospice Provider
Why choose a non-profit hospice? Surveys indicate non-profit hospice and palliative care providers like Four Seasons provide 10% more nursing visits, 35% more social worker visits, and twice as many therapy visits as for-profits provide. These are important differences in providing person-centered care versus profit-centered care. Additionally, a recent study published by The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) revealed that family caregivers reported better care experiences at non-profit hospices than at for-profit hospices (see Anhang Price, R. Association of Hospice Profit Status With Family Caregivers’ Reported Care Experiences. JAMA Intern Med. 2023.)
We believe that anyone with a progressively life-limiting or terminal illness deserves considerate attention and access to high-quality care. While we are excellent stewards of resources and maintain exceptional fiscal practices, we prioritize the needs of those in our care and the needs of their families over any bottom line.
