The Elizabeth House at Four Seasons is a home-like environment that provides a comfortable, soothing atmosphere for patients and families. Here, our interdisciplinary team can address challenging symptoms and issues that cannot be managed in other care settings. The Elizabeth House is also a place where respite care is provided for the benefit of both the patient and loved ones.
A Special Place
Located just off Upward Road in Flat Rock, NC, less than one mile from I-26 at exit 53, Elizabeth House provides a home-like environment, staffed with doctors, nurses, chaplains and other members of our team. Because every moment spent with your loved one is precious, visitors including children are not only welcome, but encouraged at all hours of the day and night. In addition, because pets are often part of the family, they are welcome, too. (Leash or carrier required)
When your loved one needs 24-hour, in-patient hospice, only the absolute best care will do. At Elizabeth House, your loved one’s physical, emotional, and spiritual needs are addressed by our compassionate team of hospice professionals. This incredible care, soothing atmosphere, and supportive environment provides relief for both patients and families during this difficult journey.
Is Elizabeth House right for your loved one?
For many of our patients, a temporary stay at Elizabeth House allows medications to be adjusted, symptoms to get under control, and other benefits that allow them to return home. For others, a period of respite care (up to five days) can benefit both patient and loved ones. This Medicare-eligible benefit can help families who are traveling or caregivers that need to be refreshed from full-time caregiving.
Our team is available 24/7 to assist you with questions and to provide support. Please do not hesitate to call 828.692.6178. You may take a tour of the Elizabeth House and our Four Seasons campus at any time. Our address is:

Elizabeth House History
As a community-based nonprofit provider, Four Seasons is “owned” by you – the community. Started by volunteers in 1979, Four Seasons is committed to providing the absolute highest quality of in-patient care to all who need it.
Elizabeth House was built in 1999 as a 12-patient facility after funds were provided by generous donors. This facility was named in memory of Elizabeth M. Kinsella Reilly, RN, the mother of a former Four Seasons board member and retired pediatrician, Kathleen “Kay” McGrady.
In 2007, the capacity of the Elizabeth House expanded to 19 beds through the generosity of the community, including Kathleen “Kay” McGrady, naming the Dr. Charles W. McGrady Wing. The Cooper Family Wing, given by brothers Tom and Mike Cooper, and the Seiler Family Wing, given by Robert Seiler, were named in 2018.
Elizabeth M. Kinsella Reilly, born in New York City on October 23, 1898, was the only one of her Irish immigrant parents’ 12 children born in the United States. Early in her career, she became interested in the care of patients with terminal illness, particularly symptomatic pain alleviation. During World War II, she worked as a civilian nurse in an army hospital, where she remained constantly aware of the ravages of chronic pain on the wounded and seriously ill soldiers she tended.
At a time when the hospice concept was just being introduced in the United States, Elizabeth was a veteran nurse who advocated for meeting the challenges of terminal illness with love, compassion, respect, and deep spirituality. We are privileged to name our inpatient facility after such a pioneer in compassionate care.
